Alabama's Regional In-Service Centers
Welcome!

Who We Are:

  • The Alabama Regional In-Service Centers are a group of eleven training centers located around the state dedicated to providing training and professional development for classroom teachers.

  • Each center is associated with a public university.

  • Each center serves the city and county school systems in the county where the center is located as well as the adjacent counties.

Alabama's Regional In-Service Centers (ARIC) were created by the state legislature in 1984 to enhance the training of public school teachers, and administrators, in areas essential for improving student achievement. The legislature, seeing the effective and unique plan for the delivery of inservice training for all educators has continued that support each year since 1984.
Each center is housed in an institution of higher education and is governed by a 16-member board of which a majority are K-12 teachers and adminstrators.

The Alabama Department of Education (SDE), relies on the Regional In-Service Centers to implement and facilitate regional and state-wide professional development programs for teachers and administrators such as:
  • Alabama Reading Initiative (ARI)
  • Alabama Reading First Initiative (ARFI)
  • Alabama Science in Motion (ASIM)
  • Technology in Motion (TIM)
  • Alabama Math, Science, and Technology Initiative (AMSTI)
